Peter Robinson is the internationally bestselling author of the Inspector Banks novels, including his latest, Friend of the Devil. Janet Maslin of the York Times calls the novels "first-rate...an addictive crime series...BET YOU CAN'T READ JUST ONE." Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks is more than just your average detective - although he's a top-rate policeman and investigator, he's also an intelligent, sensitive, cultured man. But Banks is no angel. He cuts corners, disobeys orders and follows his own instincts. He also tends to be a bit melancholy and grumpy at times, and he can be difficult to work with. A divorced father of two, Banks has been living and working in the idyllic Yorkshire dales for more than 10 years, but spent the early part of his career as part of the Metropolitan Police Force in London. Banks lives alone in the countryside, and loves single malt scotch, jazz, blues, and great singer-songwriters such as Richard Thompson and Bob Dylan.
